Consumer Rights
The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO)
The TIO is an independent non-government scheme. It is not a consumer
advocate, but rather a service to help consumers and telecommunications
companies resolve disputes.
The role and powers of the TIO are included in the Telecommunications
(Consumer Protection and Service Standards) Act 1999. Copies of this Act are
available from the Commonwealth Government.
The Department Of Fair Trading
The Departments of Fair Trading in each Australian State or Territory aim to
educate both consumers and traders of their obligations and responsibilities
to each other.
The Australian Broadcasting Association (ABA)
The Australian Broadcasting Authority can be contacted to complain about the
